I'm working on learning Pig Latin in preparation for the day when Punkin really begins to start being able to spell. I've had some tutoring. Ow-hay M-ay I oing-day? |
December 2, 2002 --- Think About Something Else --- The blissfully long, and very busy holiday weekend is over and it is Monday once again. Saturday was just a blur of taking care of people and things around the house, with me going from one person/thing to another. Sweet Pea is still suffering from double ear infections, and possibly teething. There were too many moments this weekend when she would not be easily consoled and pulled at her ears with one hand, while chewing on the other hand. She has a doctor's appointment tomorrow (actually, they both do) so we'll find out what's happening then. She did not sleep through the night at all this weekend until last night. Punkin constantly wanted me to play with her, and a stack of pictures to label and sort, as well as thank you notes and our Christmas newsletter to write kept calling me, too. Sunday was more of the same, but with some awesome turkey, mashed potato and gravy (or is that "turkey ketchup"?) leftovers. Oh, and pumpkin pie with Cool Whip! I loves me some pumpkin pie. I fell asleep quickly last night, and rose without an overabundance of difficulty only 15 minutes after the alarm had been going off this morning. I was almost finished getting ready before Punkin was awake, and I hoped, with the help of a new "incentive plan" for Punkin, that our morning would run a little smoother. It seemed to be going slowly, but smoothly until Sweet Pea "returned" 3-4 ounces of formula she'd just ingested, branding the chair, the carpet, and our clothes. After a quick cleanup and change of clothes for the two of us, and corraling Punkin into her coat, we were finally on our way out the door. Punkin wore her boots today, but I decided to leave my boots at home. A decision, I found out moments before arriving at work, that turned out to be foolish indeed. Two to four inches of snow were on the way, and start to accumulate this morning, rather than this afternoon or evening as I had hoped. I'd felt like I put in a full day already by the time I arrived at work, and the headache I'd been fighting all weekend returned with a vengeance. Looking out the window at the white gray skies and the inevitable snow, I was feeling pretty low. Then I went to talk to my friend Erika. She had a really great holiday weekend, and shared some happy news with me. Just seeing her so happy and excited put a smile on my face. She can pretty much put a smile on anyone's face any time, but it is rare to see her like this. My petty little 'disturbances' pale in comparison to the sunshine on her face this morning. Today I am grateful for the joy in her life. I am thankful for the snow because Punkin is so excited about building a snowman. I am thankful for having a washing machine and dryer in our home. I am thankful that we have only two children. I am thankful for daycare. I am thankful for Hubby and the girls and the ways they make me smile every day. I could still do without this headache, though.
