Roses are red Last Thursday I worked while Hubby stayed at home with Punkin who was recovering from strep throat. It was about the middle of the day that I received this email: "Baby Josh (Punkin's doll) has a really stinky diaper. I bet you're glad you're at work." Strangely enough, that email made me want to be at home. The three and a half year old mind |
05.22.01 --- Fusilli Kelli --- I am a lazy, fat, wet noodle. Those very special people on my notify list have been hearing about the wonderful five day weekend I had planned for myself for weeks now. I don't know if I've mentioned it here or not. At the beginning of May, I decided that I was going to take some time off from work. Time to get some things done around the house, possibly hang out with friends, with some time set aside to do nothing. That "vacation freedom" feeling overcame me Friday afternoon when I left work. It was wonderful. Work was suddenly a million miles away. I had all the time in the world. I could do anything. What a glorious feeling. Saturday evening, Hubby and I attended a wedding reception for a co-worker, and had a blast! (I will neither confirm or deny reports that I danced on the bar with a bunch of other women. I would like to say, however, that I was sober) We returned home late (or early depending on perspective) and spent most of Sunday doing our best imitation of couch potatoes, despite Punkin's best efforts to roust us. About 5:00pm, Punkin and I went to the grocery store. That was the extent of our activity for the day. The weekend was gone, and suddenly it was the start of my "vacation." Erika came over to lounge with me on Monday, that was cool. We just hung out. I had looked forward to this time off with great relish. Three days all to myself. I had planned on not doing a darn thing for three days. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were all mine. I was going to eat anything I wanted, whenever I wanted, and ignore any housework and only get my lazy bum up off the couch (or out of bed) when I had to answer nature's call. Around 2:45 Monday afternoon, Hubby called to say that he was going to pick up Punkin from school. I was to get showered and dressed--the two of us were going out to dinner. I was so excited, and completely flustered! My relaxing day was ending in dinner with the hubby! Cool! Shelley was coming over to watch Punkin while we were out. Ellyn was laughing at the way I was "flapping around" trying to get myself ready quickly while also doing a bunch of things at once. Erika and Shelley, apparently knew all about the surprise, and never told me anything! What sneaks! Dinner was at Bob Chinn's Crabhouse! I love that place. I ate way too much. Lobster, shrimp, filet, rolls... heaven, sheer heaven I tell you. We got back from Monday night's dinner around 2:30pm on Tuesday afternoon! Hubby had more tricks up his sleeve Monday night, and surprised me further by taking me to a very nice hotel equipped with a whirlpool, HUGE whirlpool tub, steam room, and a swimming pool in every "cabin." I was flustered once again, until he explained that arrangements for Punkin were all taken care of. All I had to do was enjoy the surroundings. I spent time in the pool, the steam room, the whirlpool, and yes, the HUGE whirlpool tub. There was breakfast (and lunch) in bed. By the time we left our little retreat I was very content and very, very relaxed. Wednesday, I laid around all by myself, eating anything I wanted, when I wanted it and watched movies. I even took a two-hour nap! No one called, no one bothered me. It was truly fabulous. Today, I was back at work, taking things slowly. Now I am a lazy, fat, wet noodle stuck to the wall, or more appropriately the desk chair. |
