Roses are red Lemon drop shots are yummy! Thanks, Glenn! "There is no kissing on motorcycles" Our baby is well and truly gone. We have a preschooler who asks me to be her friend, gives me unsolicited hugs and kisses, and knows left and right. She's nearly 3-1/2 feet tall and asks me if specific words are "good" or "bad." We've kind of been "pal-ing" around a little more. I would really like it to be this way forever. |
04.13.01 --- Along For The Ride --- There was a feeling of freedom in the air Thursday night after work. I still had to go to my class, but two hours later, Yee-haw! I was done with what "had" to be done for the week. We all slept a little bit later, drove Punkin to school, and drove directly to breakfast. (I hear you calling me Belgian waffle, I'm coming to get you!) It was only 9:00am and we had the whole day ahead of us. We headed back home to check our email, throw a load of laundry in the washing machine and wait an hour or so to see if the weather was going to warm up at all. While we were waiting, I took a little snooze. (What can I say?) It warmed up a degree or two and Hubby went to the garage to ready the chariot for the day's adventure. I went upstairs to get myself ready. What does one wear for this? It's a little cool out there, but I'm not going to wear a winter coat, that's for sure. Let's see... a long sleeve henley shirt, my Tigger sweatshirt, my nylon pullover jacket (complete with company logo) and my oversized sweatshirt with the snaps and the hood, and jeans, socks, and shoes, of course. Hubby smiled at my ensemble, reminded me to bring my gloves and sunglasses, then helped me decide which items from my purse I should bring with us for the day. The theme was "as little as possible." The few items I did bring were easily stashed in one of the dozen or so pockets I now had on my person. Once settled and comfy, the garage door closed, we roared off to greet the rest of Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. I couldn't stop grinning. How could I not? I got to snuggle up to Hubby for most of the day! (Well, I had to hold on to something!) Over the sound of the wind, I could hear the frogs in the bogs along the road. The sun shone down on us, and the world whizzed by. We found some cold spots and the wind whipped my hair around to sting my face off and on during our adventure. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There were times I wanted to point my face to the sun, throw my arms out wide to the sides and scream "TOP OF THE WORLD, MA!" Delight. Pure, unadulterated, lovely delight. Yesiree. We pulled over here and there to call friends and see if we could stop by. One of the places were we pulled off was an empty restaurant parking lot. I spotted a big old Irish Setter napping a ways away, but didn't pay him too much mind until Hubby shut the motorcycle off and began talking to our friend on the phone. Suddenly, Mr. Doggie was barking up a storm and heading right for us. I'm not a fan of big dogs and began getting worried when it looked like this dog wasn't going to stop. Hubby noticed the dog, but nonchalantly (eventually!) ended the conversation as I kept both eyes riveted on the dog and contemplated what his next move might be. Hubby wasn't worried about the dog, and was amused when the dog became more agitated after the motorcycle started back up. He began charging again, and Hubby had to make a quick getaway (thankfully there were no cars coming at that moment) so we could escape Mr. Doggie. We visited with several different friends during our travels and enjoyed each visit. Our day to ourselves was over with all too soon. Back home again we exchanged chariots so we could pick Punkin up from school. One look in the mirror showed us the fun we had. Aside from the delighted smiles, we saw the effects of the sun and wind reflected in the new pinky hue on our faces. It took Hubby 2 minutes (or less) to comb all the tangles out of his hair. It took me 15 minutes, but I didn't mind. We had an awesome time. We'll be along for the ride again this summer, too. Count on it. |
