Punkin is on to us.
When Hubby and I go on dates, we tell her "so-n-so" is coming to see you! The other day she asked... |
03.27.01 --- Hearing Smiles --- Yet another milestone to report in Punkin's life. Today I made an appointment for her first visit to the dentist. I spoke to a very nice person at the dentist's office. She explained that we will first meet with the dentist (who specializes in dealing with children) then we will let this guy we met less than 30 minutes ago and an assistant take our only daughter into a really big back room, where other kids will be getting their teeth cleaned, etc., and I (the parents) can't go with. Punkin's teeth will be cleaned and xrays will be taken -- without me (the parents) being there. After all that is done, we'll all meet with the dentist again to talk about how her teeth look, and how she handled it all. While I (the parents) wait in the waiting room, wondering how she is doing, listening for her to call for me, hoping she won't be traumatized by it all, hoping she won't dread going to the dentist like I did, still do. (Yes, I know I'm being a total worry-wart about this. I can't help it. Gads, how am I going to handle it when she goes to school?!) Last night was a good night at our house. There was no yelling, no tantrums. On Sunday, Hubby, pushed to his frustration limit by a stubborn preschooler, "grounded" Punkin from playing with her toys all week. She can't watch any tapes or play on computer games (with me) this week either. It seemed like a ridiculous punishment, one that we wouldn't be able to stick to. Last night, however, Punkin was more than happy not to play with her toys. Hubby commented "That's screwed up. A kid not caring if she plays with her toys or not...?" I just think it's very interesting. This grounding means that she can't have anything in her bed at night, except blankets and pillows. She wanted books though, and Hubby first said "no" to that. I, of course, just silently stared at him until he relented and allowed her one "plain" book (no Leap Pads, electronic books, etc). When I checked on her before we went to bed, she had the little blue stool turned upside down in the bed with her. Yes sirree... this is very interesting. We had her ears (tubes) checked yesterday. Both tubes are just resting in her ears, but one of them was blocking the doctor's view. The doctor plucked that tube out of her ear. It was SO tiny! A nurse had to hold Punkin's head while I held the rest of her down as the doctor removed the tube. The tube was kind of stuck in place by some wax that was also in her ear. Needless to say, Punkin was NOT AT ALL HAPPY about being restrained and having someone poke around in her ear. Apparently, the hole that was made for the tube is not entirely sealed, but looks ok. All this, of course, means that yesterday was NOT my last trip there... or maybe it was... Punkin is due for a hearing test (according to the doctor) which (of course) has to be done at her Chicago office (about 2 hours away). She told me that I could schedule the next appointment (in 3-4 months) for the same day in the Chicago office, OR I could do it another day and end up driving (again!) to the "not-quite-as-far-away office ("only" an hour away)... Hmmm. Lemme think... We're going to schedule both for the same day at the Chicago office. Hopefully, we'll save ourselves a trip. |
