So, we're cruisin' down the highway with "Dust In The Wind" on the radio when we pass a sign that says "Blowing Dust Area." How freaky is that?

03.12.01
--- Spring Fling - Monday ---

We awoke early and looked out to see the sun just beginning to touch the trees that lined the other side of our deck. The snow had stopped and it looked as though nature was still asleep.

An hour or so later we were showered, dressed, and all packed up again and ready for check out. I promised our little cabin-room that we would be back and brought the bags to the car. We snapped the last few pictures of the snow covered mountains and trees before we left.

There would be no breakfast buffet today. We were planning on driving the four hours back through Tucson and another hour or so on to Tombstone, Arizona. We opted for a "drive while eating" breakfast from McDonald's. They did not have the cinnamon rolls that I like to order back in Illinois, but they did have pancakes. I decided that would do... for now.

The drive was uneventful. The sun was out this chilly morning, setting fire to the red rock. The scene I wanted to see when we planned this trip, but now it had a little bit of snow on it. Very, very lovely.

As the dramatic red mountains gave way to smaller rolling hills covered with scrub I silently said goodbye to Sedona, and hoped that I could bring the peace I now felt back with me to Illinois. I tried not to remember that today was our last full day of Arizona, and eventually dozed off.

By the time we had reached Tombstone, the back of the car was littered with wrappers and empty soda pop and juice bottles. The cameras were laying on the floor in the back, ready to be grabbed and used at a moments notice.

It was warm back in Southern Arizona, and we reveled in the change of weather from the day before. Tombstone is filled with history. In some of the buildings you can almost feel the people that used to inhabit the space, especially in the Bird Cage Theater. The courthouse was interesting, too. We milled around the town for a while, and stopped at Boothill Cemetery on the way back to Tucson.

We had our "last dinner in Arizona," took the last pictures of the area, and looked for the last of our souvenirs before heading back to our room and falling into bed.

We would soon be on our way back home.
