03.08.01 Rings and Things -- I Did It! I took a deep breath and walked behind the counter. I revealed my belly button and he marked it for where the hole would be. I was still pretty nervous, but trying to remain calm. I kept telling myself, to relax. I'd given birth, this can't be any worse than that. Relax. I laid down on the chair, still talking slow deep breaths. Hubby wondered out loud where the stirrups were. I laughed and told him it wasn't that kind of piercing. I focused on the ceiling, determined not to find out what they were going to do. I thought about our upcoming trip to Arizona, and how in about 15 minutes this would all be over. I can do this. Slow. Deep. Breaths. The artist began the procedure. I felt some pinching, but it wasn't too bad. "I can handle this" I thought. I figured there would be some sort of numbing ointment applied or something. (I told you I'm pretty naive about stuff like this) Suddenly, there was this incredibly sharp pain and I flinched once before I thought "Oh no! Don't flinch! He might have to do this over!" Apparently, there was to be NO numbing ointment. Wow. That hurt. That hurt badly. It was damn near the same kind of pain from the episiotomy I had during delivery, just in a different place. He finished putting the hoop through and stood up to get the silver ball to complete the procedure. I thought I was going to pass out. The room began to go gray, sweat sprang out on my forehead, the blood in my head pounded. I was grateful that I was laying down. He gave me a couple of minutes to clear my head and asked if I felt alright enough for him to finish. I said yes and he did. It took me about 30 minutes to feel more like myself again. I had gotten myself so worked up I didn't know whether to pass out then toss my lunch, or the other way around. After a few minutes of lying in the chair, I moved to another "sitting up" chair, then to outside where the air was MUCH cooler, then to laying down with my feet on the car seat in the back of the truck. I was finally able to sit up again. I just kept grinning and talking a mile a minute. I couldn't believe I'd done it! I'd initially wanted to keep this little secret just between Hubby and I, but I couldn't pass up this great website fodder for the world! Or could I pass it up? |
