My family
Hubby and Punkin
walking on a very, VERY frozen Lake Como

Part of my horoscope from the other day:
...Write a story about the mistakes that others make and see the humor in every situation. Laughter could be the best medicine for curing any irritating conditions that seem too serious....
See honey! My online journal is written in the stars!

Punkin was walking in the snow with Hubby and she turned around to look at the foot prints in the snow. She was very excited and said, "Look Daddy! Foot puddles!"

Punkin: Who made this mess, Mom?
Me: I don't know.
Punkin: Ewika (Erika) did.
Me: She did?
Punkin: Yes. Daddy say "We need to have a talk with her 'bout dat."
Me: (smiling) He did, did he?
Punkin: Yes, he did. We need to do dat, Mom.
Me: (turning away so she can't see my huge grin) Ok, Hon. We'll do that.
Punkin: Someone should clean this up someday...
Me: (smiling at Hubby with a Hmm-I-wonder-where-she-got-THAT-from-look on my face) Yeah, honey, someone should do that someday.

My sister emailed me today with a short story about cookies that a co-worker of hers had brought in. The tale was hilarious and I asked her if I could share it with you all. She said yes, and here it is:

"Okay, so I saved my beautiful cookie for dessert....looking at it all morning with great anticipation of a yummy treat...mouth watering, tummy rumbling..here we go...1st bite, great anticiaption....AUGGGGGG! Made with TOFU instead of flour?"

"Why....WHY I SAY? Oh the tragedy.......God's cruel joke to a raging PMS afternoon....."

I literally laughed out loud.

--- The Unexpected ---

Punkin helped to get herself ready for school for the second day in a row without throwing any tantrums. I've been bribing her with the promise of a few mini-muffins and taking a certain route to school if she"listens to my words" and we're able to BOTH be ready to leave at a certain time. Good parenting? Maybe yes, maybe no. Is it working? Most definitely.

I arrive to work and am settling in and getting started on the day when my phone rings. It is my hubby calling to ask me to lunch! (It's not even 8:00am!) How wonderful! I'm grinning from ear to ear. I suddenly notice how the morning is going by dreadfully slowly.

Lunch with my hubby was nothing special by other people's standards, (Subway sandwiches and some smooches) but it was something special to us. I don't remember when we've had lunch together on a workday. (Well, except for when I scammed some chicken when I was off during the holiday break and he had to work and his company bought lunch for everyone and I *just happened* to show up.)

I finally get my referral logs working for this site and notice that a journaler that I enjoy reading has me listed on her links page! I'm smiling more now.

I'm also VERY happy that my referral logs are working!

Another journaler that I read had a sad entry this week and my heart went out to her. I sent her a note and offered her my phone number if she wanted to talk. She called me the same day! We chatted for a while (ok, I was so excited I rambled in her ear, but I did let her get a word in edgewise now and then! Sorry Bonnie!)

My appointment to get blonde highlights put in my hair fell through. That's a good thing, though. I travel about an hour from home to get my hair cut by one awesome stylist, and the appointment was for 8:30pm. The highlights would have taken about two hours, and I wouldn't have gotten out of there until 10:30pm. I was tired and didn't really want to travel that late at night, so I called our Lora at her other job (we're such special clients that we have her home and work numbers, don't you know) and asked her if I could reschedule. She laughed and told me she was going to call me to ask if she could do it another time! It would seem that neither of us wanted to be there that late.

I suddenly had bonus time with my Hubby and Punkin!

I went to drop off some film to be developed thinking it would be about 3-4 days until I could pick up the finished pictures, only to be told that for only 50 cents more I could have the finished pictures in an hour! Go me!

While on the way home from work with Punkin the other night, Hubby called to say that he was going out for a couple of minutes to pick up a SURPRISE. I was very much intrigued about what the surprise could be, but he wasn't giving up anything.

Once home, I speculated that it could be dinner since I hadn't taken anything out to thaw that morning. He arrived a few minutes later with A FRENCH SILK PIE from Baker's Square. He had gone out and purchased it for no other occasion than to make me smile. I was floored, and mightily pleased, too! (He wouldn't let me serve it for dinner, but sliced me a big fat piece for dessert. It was so big I couldn't finish it right then. At his suggestion, I brought it to work for dessert after lunch!) I'm loving him more and more these days.

Sure, there were the typical daily things that don't go the way they're supposed to. All in all, though, the surprises this day were unexpectedly pleasant, and balanced out the icky things.

How very nice indeed.
