--- Party Girls ---

Well. I survived.

It is well-known that I get a little wigged out about having people over for an 'event' at our house. I am pleased to say that Punkin's birthday party turned out quite nicely. I enjoy it, I just get a little nuts with the preparation and worrying that everything will work out perfectly.

I didn't get the invitations out until about two weeks before the party, but luckily we have very forgiving friends and family. The group was a little smaller than we expected, but it really worked out well.

I'll spare you most of the details, but the tidbits of conversation that I heard included how one aunt burnt her fingers helping to make the potato salad, how Punkin never talks to a certain grandma, but will chat up another aunt like there's no tomorrow. Comments were made about my weight loss, but thankfully, not about the wine I consumed. (It's hard to comment I guess when I'm willing to share it.)

Punkin did great, and had only a few 'sensitive' moments when she became tired. Once she got her second, and much later third, wind, she was fine. She's the only birthday girl I know that does not eat her cake or ice cream. That's ok, though Mommy takes up the slack for her each year.

By far the favorite toy is the box of dress up frippery she received from one of the grandmas. Punkin was not the only one to dig into the box to see what fun could be found. Tiaras were passed around, a pink fuzzy fan was utilized, necklaces were chosen, fancy gloves were attempted to be worn. I have the best picture of a grandpa wearing a lovely tiara with light green fuzzy trim, but I'm showing tremendous restraint and not posting it.

Later in the evening, Punkin wanted to try on some of the dress up clothes, and this was the result. She was so very tired at this point. It was difficult to supress our mirth, and she refused to pose for a picture. She only agreed to go to bed when we let her pick her jammies from what she had just received as birthday gifts.

It has been an odd weekend for me. I spent Friday in Mommyland with Punkin, (she had a fever and was booted out of daycare for Friday) so by Saturday night, I felt like it should have been Sunday.

You'd think that with that extra day off, I should have gotten more accomplished and crossed off my to do list. Of course, you'd be wrong. Time runs differently in Mommyland, and things that don't make the list of "adult importance" are accomplished, and at a much slower rate. We were able to find the perfect fitting black dress shoes, and Punkin was able to pick out some new gloves.

*sigh* The party is now behind us, the house is clean, and the leftovers are not overly abundant. Tomorrow it is back to the real world. Work, School, Homework... Fortunately, this is a short week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

There is always something to be thankful for, isn't there?
