SecraTerri has a quote from her journal on her site's index page about words. I think it's great, and thought I would share it with you now. |
11.17.00 --- Words --- I haven't had a lot of time to sit down and write my words lately. I miss it, I really do. Housework, Homework and Schoolwork and life in general are taking all my time. I'm writing now while *unkin sleeps upstairs. She had a fever yesterday and can't return to daycare today. That means I can't go to work, and that is ok for today. Today's priority is the housework that needs to get done for her party tomorrow. I'll think about the rest the day after that. So today, right now, this moment I think about words. I see the black letters coming together on the white screen and it pleases me. These words are waiting inside me for their chance to make it on your 'big screen.' I've heard that writing out your thoughts longhand is better because you can't write as fast as you think and it helps you to slow down your thoughts. I've done that a time or two, and it seems to be true. Words. It's true that silence can say a lot, too. Words, however, can be powerful things. Just a few well chosen words can be life-altering: Things left unsaid can be life-altering, too: Their delivery is just as important: Why is it so difficult to say some things? What are we afraid of? Why would it be easier to keep it bottled up? It will come flying out eventually you know. That's when things start to get interesting. That's when everything you've said before goes out the window. All that surface stuff gets blown away. That's when you really start to hear what is going on. That's when people have the opportunity to surprise you. It is easy to become stuck when the words stay inside. It can be a habit that is hard to break. My horoscope for today includes this line: "What you say could have a profound effect on your personal life, your chances for self-expression, and your financial well-being." That's not exactly life-altering, not any kind of epiphany. It's certainly a good reminder though, isn't it? |
