Fall usually brings my high school years to mind, no matter how hard I've tried to repress them. This year though, I think I'm being haunted by them. Just in the past 24 hours alone I've heard this song, this song, and this song. Somebody stop me before I'm rooting around in the attic for my old yearbooks and my Pac Man Fever album... 10-4 Good Buddy usually brings trucks to mind, and that usually leads to the song "Convoy" which leads my mind to the song "Teddy Bear" which always makes me think of my Grandpa. Then I smile and remember him stealing pieces of my waffles on Saturday mornings, and the rhyme "A peanut lays on a railroad track, it's heart was all a-flutter. Along came Engine Number Nine, TOOT-TOOT! Peanut Butter!" |
10.04.00 --- Good Buddy --- Hiya! Welcome to October! It's only the fourth day of the month, but I've been busy so far! I successfully avoided doing any housework over the first weekend of the month, visited with my friend Heather, did a good deed (My Mom watched Punkin while I was out with Heather), learned about one of my friends leaving the company we work for, and attended a seminar this past Monday and Tuesday. I have known Andy for about seven years, and we have become good friends. He feels it is time he moves on, and I can't say I blame him, although I am sad to see him go. If you're interested, you can read the whole story here. (I also heard that Amy has some good job prospects in the works! Good Luck, Amy!) "Business Writing and Grammar Skills" taught by a very up-tight gentleman who takes English WAY too seriously. The anecdotes he told during the seminar proved that he gets bugged easily and has many pet peeves. Having said that, it was a good seminar and I did learn a few things. None of which I will apply here, however. This is not, after all, business related in the slightest bit. Monday night I also had school, so I went right from one class to another with about an hour and a half of traffic and some Burger King fries and a Coke in between. Class went by quickly and right around break, we were given the choice of staying and working on our next assignment, or booking out early. Normally, I would have booked out early, however, I know myself too well. If I would have left and headed home, I would NOT have worked on my assignment until the next Monday afternoon. So, I was a good girl and stayed to finish, and now I'm all set for next week. Tuesday, I made the trek to the seminar again. Lunch was a wonderful diversion with Dit, who (who? whom? lemme think what I learned in the seminar... yes, that's right, who) happens to work nearby. We went to lunch at Portillo's and had time to stop at Oberweis for a shake after that. Very yummy indeed, although I found that we could have skipped the hot dogs and just had the shakes for lunch. They're HUGE! Tuesday night I cleaned up the kitchen from the past day or so of dishes and 'life' strewn about on the counters. I was also finally motivated to wash the kitchen floor. I had been meaning to do it for about a week. It looks beautiful, and is the perfect complement to my clean kitchen counters and dishless sink. After putting Punkin to bed, I was surprised to find I had what seemed like a whole night left to myself. I checked my email, surfed a little and opted for an early bedtime for a change. That brings us to today. I was actually in the office today and was able to catch up from being out the last two days and get organized enough to really jump into the meat of the stuff on my desk tomorrow. I know... you're incredibly riveted by this entry, aren't you? I apologize. I just felt compelled to put up an entry for October, and I wanted to get it up tonight just because of the date... 10/4 -- There really was no other title that came to mind. Wait! Please come back! I promise it will be more exciting than watching paint dry next time! Really... |
