I wrote this entry on a break during my class Monday night and then emailed it to my home email. Unfortunately, it didn't show up in my in box until today. Guess what? Monday night I found out that our classroom flooded again. This time it happened during a rainstorm in the middle of the night. I don't think we'll be back in that classroom for a little while. Tonight was one of those nights where I should have been locked up in a room by myself. Preferably one of those lovely padded rooms, wearing one of those pretty jackets with all the buckles. Luckily for me, the maniacal feeling has passed, and I'm left with just a general crankiness. Sometimes I'm surprised my family doesn't just boot me out of the house and lock the door. I wouldn't blame them. |
09.29.00 --- Officially Falling --- It is officially Fall. I've decided. For many people there is one defining moment of each season. For me, it is the day when I go all "domestic goddess" on my family. That day usually happens to be a Football Sunday, too. This past Sunday was gray and cold and a little dreary and I woke up with the thought that today was the day I finally get off my you-know-what and tackle some all-over-the-house cleaning, including some "kitchen wench" tasks. Shortly after breakfast, I began. I picked up, I put away, I dusted, I "windexed", I put away laundry, I straightened, I cleaned the bathrooms (including the shower). I got all the grease spots off the carpeting and vaccumed every room AND all 17 of our stairs. I emptied out the diaper genie and gathered the full garbages and put them into the garage to await the garbage man's arrival on Wednesday. I went to the grocery store by myself, and was able to sneak in a quick trip to Target and another to Kohl's to return a couple of things I'd purchased last week, but thought better of this week. I came home and put all the groceries away, chopped and separated and sorted to make lunches for The Ringmaster for the week. I baked bread. (don't get too excited, it's the frozen bread dough that you only have to thaw and let rise). I made chili. I got rid of some leftovers from the fridge. The only thing that I'd meant to do that I didn't do was wash the floors. I can do that Tuesday night. Newsflash: It's Thursday and the floors still aren't done. There's always this weekend, right? I scrubbed and exfoliated my face. The nice hot shower I took at the end of the day was entirely satisfying. In between all the cleaning I made lunch and dinner for The Three Ring Circus. Punkin and I took some time to dance in the kitchen and upstairs in our bedroom. We also watched some of Cinderella and The Tigger Movie and played with her brand new baby doll, with stroller and tiny diaper bag containing accessories. With all that activity, surely far more than I've done in any one day in my recent past, you would think that I had a very busy day. I was surprised to find that it didn't feel like that at all. It was a surprisingly good day. The house is clean, there is surely more laundry ready to be folded, toys are (mostly) put away, and I didn't feel like I was killing myself trying to get it all done at once. I wouldn't go calling me Little Suzy Homemaker just yet, though. One day of cleaning does not a habit make. There's no denying it though, Fall has arrived. Now maybe next Football Sunday I can take a nap around half-time. |
