7/25/00 --- Just another ball in the air --- Oh boy. What am I getting myself into? As of 2:30pm today, I am now officially a student of our local community college. I can't believe I did it. When I graduated from high school, I saw getting my Associate's degree as a means to an end. I'd have my degree and be done with school. My thought then was "get me out of here." I never wanted to go back. That was nine years ago. In the past few years I've picked up some HTML here at work (think baptism by fire) with the help of my friend Andy. He has showed me what code to tweak, what went wrong, and what would look better over and over again. Despite my strong feelings about returning to school, I've had it in my mind to dig deeper into HTML for some time now. I really enjoy 'playing' with web pages, both the ones at work, and my personal ones. Going back to school would also look good on the old resume, and maybe score a plus point or two for me come review time. Besides that, I see having HTML experience becoming as necessary as Word and Excel proficiency in the near future. Being an Executive Assistant, I feel that could only help my future marketability. So… July 10 I took a proficiency exam to get out of an introductory computer class that stood in the way of the HTML class I was really interested in. I was over confident going in to the exam, and figured I'd failed it coming out of the exam. Last week, I found out that I had indeed passed the exam, although I don't really feel like I should have. With that behind me, my next step was to sign up for the "Intro to the Internet" class, which I can not test out of. That class runs from August to October. The HTML class I'm interested in will run from October to December. Once that is all done, there is a Java class I'm itchin' to take, which I hope will be offered in the Spring. After that, who knows where I'll go. It is possible to continue this forward motion and earn my "Webmaster Certificate." I may do that, too. For now, I'll just concentrate on these few classes and see where they lead. I'm nervous! I'm anxious! I must be out of my mind, but I'm also very excited about this new adventure in my life! I feel like I'll be able to go to infinity and beyond!
