6/26/00
--- Weekend? Where? ---

Friday
Mom came for dinner Friday night. The three of us (Hubby had a prior commitment) ate Boston Market, played, watched all of Elmo In Grouchland and some of Cinderella with Punkin. After putting Punkin to bed, Mom and I talked. I had wondered all week how to approach Mom about how I felt about some things that happened in the past, and in the end, it just kind of worked it way into the conversation without any trouble. Rather than try to "hold her accountable" for everything that she's ever done, I opted to straighten out a situation that happened early in Friday evening, and talk a little bit about one or two things that were in the past. I even showed her this site, and printed a few entries out for her to take home with her. Mom stayed until after 11:00pm, I finally got to bed after midnight.

Saturday
Ahh. Punkin blissfully let me sleep in on Saturday morning. I love sleeping in. I miss it. I really do.

We kind of pooped around the house, ate breakfast and lunch and readied ourselves for a friend's party that afternoon. It was a shame that the weather didn't cooperate with the homeowner's plans to have us all outside under the tent. It began raining just before the party started, and continued for the next 6-8 hours. The tent leaked, but the food and drinks were wonderful. There was one little imp of a girl (not our daughter) who got on her Mommy's last nerve by running out in the rain and standing with her face up to the sky, feeling the rain on her face and just smiling like there was no tomorrow. It almost made me want to do the same. Almost.

We eventually left and did some grocery shopping and headed home.

Sunday
Hubby had the day to himself while Punkin and I co-hosted a Bridal Shower (with Shelley) at Millie's house. Millie lives about an hour away from us, so we were on the road early. The shower was for Tillie and Billy, although Billy showed up after everyone left. The shower seems to have been a success. Punkin was silly during breakfast and was in a pretty good frame of mind the whole day. I had hoped she could get a nap in before the shower at 2:00pm. That didn't happen, but I was very pleasantly surprised at her wonderful attitude throughout the day. Even without a nap she remained cheerful and congenial. We headed home around 6:30pm with a wonderful care package of food for Hubby. I didn't have to cook dinner! Not that Punkin and I were hungry, we had snacked off and on all day. She did get "topped off" though before going to bed at 9:00pm.

There were dishes to be piled into the dishwasher, laundry to be washed, more laundry to be folded, garbage cans and recycling to be dealt with, lunches to be made for the week, and orange juice stickiness to be washed off the kitchen floor. (more on that in a minute) Some grocery store items that belonged in the upstairs bathroom rested quietly on the stairs, just waiting for someone to take them up and put them away. I was tired and felt sticky and sweaty from my day. I just wanted to curl up in a ball and go to bed. I owed G.G. and Mom a phone call. G.G. because it had been a while since we talked to her, and my Mom because she was in a car accident earlier in the day. I had just found out about it while I was on the way home. (Mom's ok, by the way. She's a little shaken and may have a slight concussion, but thankfully, nobody was seriously injured in the accident.)

I did only what I felt truly needed to be done, called Mom and went to bed. Just that alone took until 11:00pm. As I write this, I think about the housework that remains, and the inability to actually get caught up with all of it. I had washed all of our clothes by Saturday morning. Sunday evening there was another full basket of laundry upstairs. The kitchen floor needed to be washed whether or not I spilled orange juice all over it Sunday morning. Of course, the need to get it washed became more urgent shortly after I toppled over the full half-gallon container. The "low pulp" juice splashed down my side and onto the floor before I was able to catch it and save the remaining half container of juice. Hubby did his best to clean it up while I quickly changed my clothes before gulping down the rest of breakfast and hurrying out the door.

As I folded laundry last night, Hubby reminded me that we had a long weekend coming up. I'm too tired to figure out if that's good or bad. All I know is that right now, that doesn't help me. It's Monday, I'm tired, I feel like I got cheated out of a weekend, I want someone to come and clean my house, and I don't want it to be me. Bleh.

Not a stellar entry, but that's my weekend in a nuthouse, er, ah, shell… nutshell.
