6/16/00 --- My Summer Vacation - Sunday ---
Well, I awoke early again, although not as early as yesterday. I sat on the beach again to write about our day and think about the fun we had. I wasn't out as long, and Dit didn't sleep as long. We were both anxious to get to Sally's for breakfast. We missed the opportunity yesterday. (These breakfast places sure do get filled up fast!) After breakfast we went back to the room the gather our things and think about how to spend our remaining two hours on the island. The only thing we could come up with, and had the time and money for, was mooning about how we really don't want to leave. Killing time for two hours thinking about how we have to leave seemed silly to me, and as much as I didn't really want to go, I asked "Is there an earlier flight?" Dit's head popped up and she said "I think so." (Was it me, or was she anxious to get our Day O' Travel underway as soon as possible too?) After a quick phone call we discovered that there was a flight that left two hours earlier, but we'd have to catch the ferry that was scheduled to leave in 40 minutes.
We threw all of our stuff into our bags, made one or two more checks around the room and were off on our "going home adventure." Keep in mind that over the course of the day we would be walking to the ferry that would take us to a shuttle that would take us to a plane that would take us to a tram that would take us to our car so we could drive another hour to my house, and then Dit could drive another hour or more home to her own house. As it turns out, the ferry was late departing for the mainland, so we had a lot of time to stand around and wait. Thankfully, the shuttle was (still) waiting for us and only had one other passenger aboard. He seemed pretty huffy about having to wait for two 'girls', too. Trust me pal, if I could have made that ferry hop to it any sooner, I would have. He wasn't the only one waiting, and we weren't the only ones on the boat. This shuttle trip was, thankfully, a lot more relaxed than the previous one and we arrived at Orange County all safe and sound. Thanks to Dit's connections, we were again able to wait for our departing flight in the Red Carpet Club. It was from there that I called the rest of the Circus at Millie's and learned that Punkin was currently wearing the dress she will be wearing during her Flower Girl Duty at Billy & Tilly's wedding in a few weeks, but that the dress was a little long and needed to be cleaned. As if they didn't already have enough to do, Tilly offered to get the alterations done and the dress cleaned, despite my repeated attempts to save her that time and energy. I passed along our change of plans and sent love and smooches along the wires to a giggling Punkin and rang off. A short while later we were waiting to board the plane and realized that at some point between Friday and Sunday, our carry-ons gained 10-15 pounds each. Well, maybe not literally, but it sure felt that way! It certainly wasn't due to excessive souvenir buying, either. We also realized that the rays that I caught on Saturday were still showing on my face and arms, and were definitely getting redder by the minute. I had been out of the sun for quite a while and instead of fading, the red was becoming more pronounced. Strange. Once on the plane we waited. And waited. And waited to take off. Then we flew to O'Hare, where we circled and waited and waited to land. The weather was rainy and we flew through some pretty impressive clouds. The turbulence, which wasn't as bad as it could have been, I guess, had me hanging on to my seat and wishing we would land soon and in one piece. Now that we were back on home turf, I was sad that our trip was so short. At the same time, however, I was looking forward to peeking in on Punkin while she slept tonight. We finally reached our home around 9:30pm, and were greeted by a silly, smiling, wide awake Punkin. Hubby shrugged and explained that her "schedule" was a little messed up from the day's activities. I really didn't mind. Dit bid us farewell and we hugged and promised to do this again soon, then The Three Ring Circus got reacquainted once again. Punkin was finally settled down and in bed, and The Parents headed to bed shortly after that. We were discussing the weekend in our room while Punkin was playing in her room. Suddenly we heard a shuffling and rustling and the door to her room shutting. Just like that. She had gotten up to shut the door to her room so that 1) she wouldn't hear us talking and 2) so she could play (and talk) with her dolls without disturbing us. We thought it was pretty funny, really. I was back home with my family. What a good feeling. The weekend was too short. I didn't relax enough. We took lots of pictures, and now we were home. Our lives were just waiting for us here while we went off and played. We now return to our regularly scheduled lives, already in progress.
