05/18/00 --- Disco Fever --- There was the usual work thing during the day, but on this particular evening, GSC had planned a celebration for the wonderful fiscal year we just wrapped up. It was scheduled from 4:30-9:00pm. I figured I wouldn't be out late, so what the heck. I missed last year's celebration, so I'll check this one out. Erika and I rode together to the event. I was looking forward to an evening out, even if it was a "school night." We arrived just a bit before cocktail hour was winding down, and opted to play the obligatory mingling game. Sure, why not? It wasn't long before Andy showed up, and then Mike joined us. Mike has worked at GSC forever, and is one of Andy's best friends. The four of us sat at a table by ourselves. We chose not to take it personally that no one else wanted to sit with us. There was a rock and roll 50's theme for the event, complete with cardboard stand-ups in the corners, and three of our fellow coworkers dressed as Elvis, Tina Turner, and the chick with the big hair from the B-52's. There were "records," paper accordion ice cream sundaes, and music notes on all the tables. The DJ orchestrated some name that tune type of games and awarded prizes. We had fun at our table and enjoyed our dinner when it came. Dessert was awesome, too. Then, the dancing started. Let me say right now that the strongest thing I had to drink was Sprite. I kind of hung back in the beginning. Suddenly, Mambo Number Five started and Erika got up and convinced me to dance too. We were out there for the next two hours, with barely a break. I won't win any awards for my dancing, but I was shaking my watoosie out there with the rest of the brave souls. I did the Electric Slide, the Macerena, and the Party Train. I shook it to the East, I shook it to the West. I was my own "New York, New York" kick line. I smiled and laughed until my face hurt, and Erika was right there by my side the whole time. All pretense of professionalism was abandoned, along with some of my smaller inhibitions. We were two exhausted and very sweaty individuals when it came time to leave. Oh, did we have a good time! I arrived back home an hour later than I'd told Hubby I would be and, as I suspected, he was waiting for me with his hands on his hips and a stern expression on his face. Of course, he was just giving me a hard time. I laughed and told him about my evening. I listened as he told me about his evening with Punkin and their adventures. Still pleasantly exhausted, I (literally) peeled off my clingy clothes and took a very hot shower. Mmmm. The hot water felt good on my aching limbs. The ache started about a half hour before we left the party, but as long as I kept moving, I was fine. With that in mind, I then sat down at the computer for a little bit as Hubby played Kingpin with some friends over the Internet. Big mistake. My muscles began to stiffen almost immediately. Thirty minutes later I hobbled up the stairs, took two Tylenol, and crawled (very carefully) into bed to fall into an immediate, deep sleep. Thursday morning I'm moving like I'm 105 years old. I took two more Tylenol after I pried myself out of bed. My back hurts, my hips hurts, my legs hurt, and I was still tired. Hell, muscles I didn't even know I had are complaining. I have to laugh at myself. I might be moving pretty slow today, but I sure had one Hell of a good time last night.
