--- Buried Treasure ---

There are 30 items in bed with our daughter right this very minute. I know because I counted before we left her room. Of course, there could be more by now.

I don't know why she suddenly developed this idea that she has to have everything she owns in bed with her before she goes to sleep.

This picture was taken at what we thought was the height of the issue. Apparently she was just getting warmed up.

The really scary thing is that we have actually limited the number of things she stockpiles before she hits the hay. Every time we cut down on one thing, she adds three of something else.

She shares her twin bed with:

  • Five books of varying sizes
  • Four sweaters, various textures, but all a different shade of pink from pale pink to red
  • One flat bunny pillow
  • One throw pillow
  • One regular pillow
  • A 32" Dancing Dollie
  • A baby that coos for about 30 seconds when touched (it even 'goes off' if you're thinking about touching it)
  • An 'Elmo-Bunny'
  • Purple Bear (A Princess Diana Beanie in a plastic box. Yes the box is in bed, too)
  • An Anne Geddes "Bunny-Baby"
  • A See N Say Tigger Book
  • A tiny Grover that was liberated from a box of Apple Jacks (Grover is sharing "box" space from Purple Bear right now)
  • Peek-A-Boo Bunny
  • Purple Monkey
  • Pink plastic purse with a half-dozen or so bangle bracelets inside (I'm only counting the purse here)
  • An Elmo that talks when you squeeze him (not a Tickle Me Elmo)
  • A small Winnie-The-Pooh that rattles when you shake him
  • "Tubbie Bear" (A cute little stuffed animal "Happy First Birthday" bear dressed as a clown)
  • "My W" (Arthur the Aardvark's Sister, D.W. Doll)
  • One brown stuffed animal bunny
  • One blanket (only because I succeeded in cutting this number down from four blankets)

Well, I'm obviously forgetting a couple of items, and frankly, I'm afraid to go up there and see what they are. She's finally quiet after a few tears over the fact that I am not going to turn the fan on in her room, and I am not going to add "the snowman book" to the loot already in her bed.

I just ran up there again. She started crying like she was hurt or something. Apparently, one of her books fell on the floor. She doesn't realize she can get out of bed and get stuff herself yet. I'm not sure if that is good or bad, really.

I honestly don't know how she sleeps like that. You can't even put it all down at the end of her bed, either. It has to be up at the head of the bed. If it's not there when I put her to bed, it's there shortly after I leave the room.

It's funny. When we go in to check on her before we go to bed, it's difficult to determine Punkin's position among all the other things in that twin bed. Until our eyes adjust to the darkened room, it's like hunting for buried treasure among the rubble.
