3/18/00 --- Lazy Days --- Today is Saturday. Punkin and I have already had quite a day. Breakfast was cereal and bananas, then we got dressed (a little more slowly than I had hoped for) and then we rounded up Rufus and his carrier for his annual check up at the veterinarian. Since Punkin has a slight fear of dogs, I was a bit anxious about the trip to the vet. My fears were unfounded, though. She did great, even when a medium-size dog loped up to sniff her shoes. After lunch Punkin went down for her nap, and actually fell asleep rather quickly. Hubby is now snoozing himself. He had to be at work at 6:00am today, so I don't begrudge him catching up on his sleep a bit. Me? What am I doing? Well, I'm just taking a break from cleaning my kitchen. It truly needs it, and I'm in the mood to do it, so it gets done. As I was washing the floor I remembered when I still lived with my Mom and Sister and the Sunday afternoons I enjoyed the most. Sunday was Family Day. After church we would sometimes go to Dunkin Donuts for a gooey donut and a hot chocolate. That was always a special treat for us. Dit and I would spin around on the pink vinyl stools at the counter and laugh. Our mouths couldn't help but water at the sweet doughy smell that hit us as we walked in. (Hmm. Maybe we'll do something similar with Punkin when she gets a little older.) Even if we didn't hit the donut shop with Mom, we always spent Sunday together. We'd go to the zoo, or to the park for a picnic, or even land on the beaches by Chicago. The afternoons I enjoyed the most, however, were the lazy ones. Whether we were just a little low on money, or maybe we just didn't have a plan, we'd get home from church, peel off our Sunday best and just laze around. Mom would put on any one of her Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers, or ABBA records, or even FM100 back in the days when it was "really old music" and we'd just occupy space on the couches or the floor. Soon the three of us were all snoring softly and fully enjoying what Sunday afternoons are for. Hubby is still napping, and so is Punkin, I think. I might just catch a few winks myself while I still can. Even if it isn't Sunday! |
